ARC Pre-Work: Module 2

1.  What is a quality teacher?

A quality teacher is one that knows the subject matter and knows young people so much that he/she will go to great lengths to get them more acquainted with one another.  That includes studying them both in depth and with creativity, so that the connections between the two become more salient and compelling.

2.  What is quality teaching?

Dan Meyer describes quality teaching as like a drama, with small clues that inexorably lead to a climax of the story.  Real teaching is so compelling—and, dare we say enjoyable—that students forget that they are learning and realize that they are exploring, incorporating information into their experiences, and realizing that the methods being taught make sense to them and become their own.

Thanks for forwarding your link. I see that you have been active in your bPortfolio site for the MAT program. Once formally admitted to the ARC program, you may need to “clean up” the site a bit, especially with regards to STLP – but we can address that later. Thanks, too, for answering the initial questions. They seem rather simple in comparison to the larger, established site. Still, I look forward to working with you this year to explore our answers to these questions in greater detail.
